The website is full of constructive and practical ideas divided into straight forward categories, and is extremely user friendly. I am a big fan of the What’s New section, as it is all too easy to get lost and caught up in the overwhelmingly negative news coverage of our wondrous earth. This is a phenominal resource for up to date and unfolding news that highlights efforts and activity and awarenesses along the lines of our global community.

No one person or organization has the answer, but together we can creatively guide our course through the challenge facing all of life on this planet. Remember, the Universe Story teaches us that it is in the face of greatest adversity that evolutionary creativity has always responded with the greatest innovations and inventions to usher in a new era of evolutionary development. The second item is a full length movie that we watched at home last night. It floored us. Full of deep resonant archetypes that ultimately address the choices that each one of us makes about whether our lives are led in an integral fashion or not, we were duly impressed with the overall artistic presentation of content of this nature. An all too rare combination in Hollywood. There are also a couple of sequences that portray interesting renditions of the big bang, in addition to creative portrayals of consciousness issues. Not too surprising, apparently this film didn’t do too well at the box office, but is slowly gaining a strong admiration society globally. Highly recommended and thoroughly thought provoking.

I was excited about the idea of this, and how the concept lent itself to facilitating certain facets of Universe Story telling in a wonderfully graphic way. But the reality of what Microsoft Research labs has done… is absolutely mind boggling. This is quite simply one of the most amazing accomplishments of our species to date. After all, a century ago we weren’t even aware that there were other galaxies than our own, and now look at the scope of knowledge that is commonly available to grade school children. To have facilitated this project, and then to release it free as an educational / inspirational tool is generous to say the least. And it is easily the first time I have been sincerely excited about owning a PC. Sorry Mac folks (of which I am first and foremost), but this seems like it is going to remain squarely in the PC realm. If you don’t own a PC, I would counsel getting friendly with someone who does, or convince your local library to install World Wide Telescope as a community service.

In a nutshell, this endeavor is highly recommended. The requirements for your PC are pretty high, but extremely worth while. And when you’ve realized that countless hours have gone missing in your life, I know nothing…

There is a rapidly spreading awareness regarding the importance of the stories that we choose to tell each other, and just how important they are as a functional glue to our communities, locally, and the ever emerging global sustainable one. As further evidence of this conscious cultural trend in awakening, there are a growing number of groups, organizations, and consulting firms intended to help facilitate the cooperative alignment and overall integrity of our evolving communities.

One that leaps out in particular is an outfit called New Stories based in Spokane Washington, USA. Because of it’s forthright alignment with the specific role of stories and how essentially important they are in the creation of conscious community, we applaud their efforts and hope to see them regarded as a role model. Then again, in our book, anyone who aligns with and quotes from Thomas Berry is quite alright and is most definitely on the right path!

The bottom line, the clearer our vision, the more likely it will come to pass. So what are you dreaming of today?

Learning how to coexist in a mutually enhancing manner is the central concept and the ultimate goal of The Gaia Community College, and in many ways, will be the keystone achievement for ensuring a habitable planet for all species. Thomas Berry reminds us (warns us?) that there can be no viable human community without a viable earth community.

Along those lines, it is the things that we can do everyday that can help make a difference, from calling our legislative representatives (for those of us lucky enough to live in a representational government), to the way that we choose to clean our houses. What we purchase is increasingly a vote for earth awareness and sustainability, as the money we spend does cast a vote heard by the powers that shape market forces.

There are a growing number of books, websites, and periodicals devoted to making green choices in our daily lives, and one of the tasks at hand through The Gaia Community College website is to highlight the ones that we find most aligned and inspiring. Instead of bombarding you with a large collection of daily news items, products, publications, and event listings, it is our intention to offer only the choicest morsels for your contemplation. We all know how valuable our time is in this day and age, and the last thing we want to do is belittle any of our chosen messages with diluted tripe.
