The importance of slowing down
Posted by Aether under: Community News .
I was drawn to The Alliance for Wild Ethics website the other day, and was immediately impressed with it’s effect. It was like being drawn into a good yarn around a campfire. You had to slow down to not just enjoy it, but to truly appreciate what was being offered for your taking. That’s pretty cool through a digital medium, and I can honestly say that it is unique in that regard in my personal surfing history. You see, you just can’t be in a rush to access the content of this website. It won’t let you. It compels you to chew on it’s morsels in a thoughtful manner in all sorts of subtle ways. Absolutely brilliant.
The concept is timely, the content thoughtful, the presentation top shelf. It’s almost a challenge ~ can you actually take the time to be with this? Of particular interest to me were the essays, and particularly within that realm, the essay on Storytelling and Wonder. In this day and age of digital everything, zip over here for this and quick byte this, giving ourselves, and especially our children, the gift of a tuned in yarn is quickly reaching the point of imperative. The oral tradition of passing along our stories is more important than ever, for an increasing amount of reasons, and this essay by David Abram flies true and on the mark. I highly recommend it for anyone desiring of a refresher on why it is so important for us all to slow down and remember how to take turns telling the story and genuinely being able to listen to it.
